Biography of HsunHsun Hsu

Soprano Hsun Hsun Hsu received her bachelor and master degrees in vocal performance from the University of Southern California (USC). She performed with USC Opera in roles as Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro in 1998, Ludmila in The Bartered Bride in 1997, and Despina in Cosi fan tutte in 1996 and 2000 productions. She appeared as Ngon Hung in Los Angeles Opera’s production On Gold Mountain, and as Dew Fairy in Hansel and Gretel with Guild Opera. Ms. Hsu was the Prizewinner of the 2001 NATS’s Young Artist of the Year competition in the career division and the finalist of the Long Beach Mozart Festival in 2000, the second prizewinner of the 1999 NATS’s Young Artist of the Year competition in the apprentice division. Hsu is a member of Phi Kappa Lamba, National Music Honor Society, and scholarship recipient of Opera Buffs and sponsorship of Taiwan Chi Mei Arts and Music Foundation for two consecutive years, 2000 and 2001. Ms. Hsu graduated from USC in 1999 with department award and has received numerous scholarship awards from USC since 1994. She was a student of Cynthia Munzer.

As a concert soloist, Ms. Hsu has performed Olivet to Calvary with Half Step Chorus, St. Matthew’s Passion with USC Thornton Choral Artists, Messiah with Mt. San Antonio College Choir, MSAC Women’s Glee Club. In the spring of 2000, she was invited to give concerts back in her native land Taiwan, for spiritual healing after the big earthquake in 1999. In 2002, she was invited to give joint concerts with her college professor Ms. Munzer in Taiwan. She was the stage director for Evangelical Formosan Church Choir for The Prodigal Son. She also performed Messiah with Southern California Taiwanese Presbyterian Church Choir in December of 2002.
